District Land Office Registers were responsible for keeping records relating to the sale and disposition of public lands. This series consists of letterpress copybooks containing copies of outgoing letters of Montgomery Land Office Registers. One volume relates entirely to contested cases, while twelve volumes contain letters from the Registers to the U.S. Land Office. The remainder of the volumes contain miscellaneous letters to individual landowners and others concerned with the disposition of public lands. Most of the volumes include an alphabetical index to correspondents' names. This series documents the work of the Montgomery Land Office Registers and the disposition of public land at the Montgomery Land Office.
